Supporting Darlington FC Women and local football over the years

September 3, 2025

Supporting Women’s Football, game on!

Our connection with Darlington Football Club goes way back. We’ve sponsored the men’s squad, youth teams and for 2025-26 season we’re backing the women’s team. For us, it’s never just been about football – it’s about the power of sport to bring people together.

Football is a big focus at TUC and supporting local football is the right thing to do. Thankfully the women’s game has grown massively in recent years, inspiring new players and fans alike. Joining in that journey means a lot – it’s about helping the next generation to see what’s possible, both on and off the pitch.

Darlington FC has long nurtured talent, many of whom went on to big success – including Dan Burn, Jordan Pickford, Kasper Schmeichel, and Dave Speedie. These players began their journeys at the club before making their mark nationally and internationally. Their stories showcase the lasting impact of a supportive local environment.

The club has a rich heritage. Arthur Wharton, the world’s first Black professional footballer, played for Darlington early in his career, setting a path for future generations. Lillie Galloway founded the Quaker Ladies in 1925, pioneering women’s football in Darlington and laying the foundations for today’s women’s teams.

“The Women’s league season is underway and it’s excellent to see that we have great support from our local sponsors” says Mick Dawson, Commercial Manager at DFC.  “The Unknown Creative have been supporters of Darlington FC for many years now and this year its brilliant to see that they are now our rear of shirt sponsor for both the home and the away shirts. With ongoing support like this we can inspire the team for a great season!”

Our founder John Dunne says: “It’s about more than a logo on a shirt. It’s about supporting ambition and giving back to the place where we started out. Backing the women’s team is another step in a journey we’ve been proud to share with Darlington FC. The squad is strong!”
