We know that sport does more than fill stands – it brings people together, sparks conversations and builds connections that outlast match‑day. That’s exactly what United By Sport is all about.
Bringing fresh energy and ideas to the North East
The initiative launched in Birmingham early 2024 to reconnect and strengthen how people and organisations from across the sports and professional services sectors work together. While the first networking event was held in Birmingham, the heart and ambition of the work is for the North East, bringing fresh energy and ideas to the region’s sporting community.
We were honoured to be approached as the strategic brand partner before the first network meeting even happened. From the beginning, it felt like a project that matched who we are as a team – people who love sport and see the power it has to bring communities together.
Launching the initiative
Our work so far has focused on the brand identity and digital presence including website and marketing materials to the northeast and wider regions. And we’re continuing to support the initiative as it grows.
Led by Robert Woodley at Turner & Townsend, the initiative had a strong turnout for its first meeting, with businesses and organisations coming together to collaborate and support the growth of sport in the region. It’s about networking and sharing knowledge for the good of the community, not just for individual gain.
At the launch event, John Dunne, Oliver Simpson and Daniel Robson represented team TUC. As John put it:
“This is the kind of work that resonates with our values. Storytelling, design and sport are our big passions, and it’s great to support an initiative that genuinely strengthens communities through sport. Being part of this from early on makes it even more meaningful to us.”
Forming new connections
Seeing everyone in the room – sharing perspectives and forming new connections- brought home the purpose of United By Sport North East. It’s all about connecting people, sharing ideas, and helping sport thrive at grass roots across the region. We’re proud to be part of it, and excited to help shape what comes next.
