The Unknown Creative spent the afternoon in Middlesbrough yesterday, as Teesside University launched its annual art, design and media show.
Invited to inspect the artistic highlights from its comprehensive list of specialist courses, we witnessed the handiwork of dozens of burgeoning creatives, and inspected a spread of wonderfully creative, original design.
The show, “Sublime“, began rather fittingly in the cultural hub of Middlesbrough’s town centre, at the Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art. Attendees from the local council, media, and affiliated creative agencies mingled with academic staff, and were treated to some pre-showcase food and drink.
We were then invited back to the University campus, for an early premiere of the latest work produced by the University’s graphic design students. We saw portfolios of hand-drawn and painted posters, bold typography, conceptual, interactive design, and a range of printing methods and textiles, taking inspiration from an eclectic collaboration of cultural and historical stimuli.
With several members of the Unknown Creative team having graduated from North East Universities, even as a London-based design agency we like to keep in touch with the artistic roots from whence we came, laud the up-and-coming colleagues in our industry and, maybe, meet the next member of our team.
