For the last fortnight, The Unknown Creative have been blessed with a new member. Straight from the end of her first year at Polam Hall Sixth Form, Erin Temple, 17, has been engaging with her first experience of work within the design world.
Brimming with ideas, intrigue, and optimism, Erin has been a welcome, refreshing addition to the team. Her interest in all things design was apparent from the moment she started, and her shrewd eye for detail immediately shone as she exhibited a keen eye for signage and typography – two of our own favourite classics of the design world!
With her instinct and passion for design certainly already secure, she has been making steady progress working with the same software and materials the rest of us use every day. She has been getting her creative teeth stuck into a challenging project we set her on day 1, and since then has been learning about the design process that takes place during our live projects, and applying it to her own burgeoning portfolio.
Erin has learned about the creative process that exists behind logo, graphic, and web design – as well as copywriting and creative communications – and leaves us on Friday with plenty of useful knowledge and honed skills to apply to the second year of her Graphic Communications A Level.
Pondering pursuing graphic design onto degree level, on reflection of her time with us, Erin said: “I know I definitely want to go into the industry now – I’m not sure which route I’ll take to get there, but I know [where] I want to be.”
With an entire summer to reflect on her time with us, before returning to study, we wish Erin all the best in her future design pursuits, and look forward to seeing her work. Whether it’s going to be at end of term University exhibitions, or cropping up in logos about the town, with her creative mind – and natural instinct – we’re sure she’ll get there.
